In a tell-all exclusive interview with the Star newspapers yesterday, Low Taek Jho (aka Jho Low) – the globe-trotting millionaire who got worldwide media attention in recent days, finally came out and talked about his life, for the very first time! I am not going to repeat the stories here as you may read them here.
I am particularly interested in one of the captions by the newspapers:
The right place, right time and the right people.
I would like to add the right schools as well!. Low Taek Jho went to the following schools:
1. Primary – Union Primary School (Penang)
2. Secondary – Chung Ling High School/Uplands School, Penang (“O” Levels), Harrow School, UK (“A” Levels)
3. University – The Wharton School of Business (University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA) (2000-2005), Bachelor of Science in Economics majoring in Finance
His primary school was Union Primary School, a much sought after Chinese primary school in Penang island. Chung Ling High School is one of the top secondary schools in Malaysia with a very large pool of successful alumni all over the world. Uplands School (now known as The International School of Penang) was established in 1955 and is one of the better known international schools in Penang. The Harrow School boasts of its seven British Prime Ministers were educated there. It is a very elite school indeed. The Wharton School of Business is one of top business schools in the world in one of the Ivy League Universities in USA.
With such an impressive schools he had attended, Jho Low went on to make his first million dollars while still studying in Wharton. Sound like a fairy tale? Certainly not! He worked hard, grabbed good opportunities and has good networking skills. One of his strongest advantage is he has the trust of his school friends back in Harrow School who are sons or grandsons of the rich Arabs. He leveraged his relationship with them well and go on to make millions.
My two cents
Having a sound and good education (the right schools) is definitely a plus point for any child. But in order to get into an elite school like Harrow School, you must be quite rich as well. Jho Low did come from a rich family from Penang.
There is no need to have a website or a Twitter account (Jho Low has none of these) to get rich, but you must have the brains, go to the right schools at the right time and meet the right people.
I wonder if any of you would consider sending your sons or daughters to Harrow School soon.
