Do you connect your computer to your TV?

Do you do presentation in PowerPoint often and do not wish to invest in an expensive “wireless presenter”?

If you answer YES to either or both of the questions above and at the same time you own an iPod or iPhone, you are ready to get a FREE wireless trackpad and keyboard for your computer. It can be used as a wireless presenter as well! Read on….

Touch Mouse by Logitech is a perfect solution for you to turn your iPod or iPhone into a wireless trackpad or keyboard in place of a conventional mouse, wireless presenter or the built-in trackpad on your notebook computer.

First: install the Touch Mouse software for iPhone/iPod in your iTunes from the App Store by clicking here.

Second: download Touch Mouse Server software and install it on your personal computer. By the way, there are two versions i.e.  Mac and Windows.

(Details of installation are given in the Logitech web site and will not be repeated here.)

Advantages of using Touch Mouse

  1. It is truly wireless and it works on WiFi. Therefore you can use it anywhere in your house or office. If your computer is connected to your TV, you can use iPod/iPhone to control your computer right from the couch.
  2. Virtual keyboard – to make typing easier you may use the virtual keyboard on your iPod/iPhone to do all the typing and text is displayed on the screen of your iPhone or iPod touch as you type. This eliminates having to continually look up and down. Of course you can hide/unhide the keyboard at anytime.
  3. Full-function trackpad – you get all the functions of trackpad with the option of 2 or 3 mouse buttons.
  4. Two-finger scrolling – you may set to use two-finger to scroll for better control.
  5. Trackpad and keyboard are available in landscape and portrait modes.

System requirements
– Mac with OS X 10.5 or higher
– PC with Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7
– Computer and iPhone or iPod touch must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network
– Touch Mouse Server software must be installed and running on the computer you want to control

My two cents

Next time when doing a presentation and you do not wish to carry your wired or wireless mouse you may just use your iPod (or iPhone) as a substitute. Why buy a an expensive wireless presenter if you are comfortable with this alternative solution?
